Gathering Together
The top of the hill marks a gathering point and is a place to meet, survey the landscape and share stories. As we pause here, we remember that local Aboriginal communities have assembled at this location and surrounds for thousands of years. ‘The Cross on the Hill’ welcomes people to gather here and was dedicated on 14 June 2019. It is surrounded by prayers and verses from the Bible written into the brickwork. Please take some time to pause, reflect and read.
Dense planting of insect-attracting flowers and fruiting shrubs such as wattle (Acacia pycnantha), Christmas bush (Bursaria spinosa) and Kangaroo apples (Solanum aviculare) has been undertaken in this area to encourage native birds back to the area. Sit quietly and at certain times of day you are likely to see the Welcome Swallow (Hirundo neoxena), the Crescent Honeyeater (Phylidonyris pyrrhopterus) and the Scarlet Robin (Petroica boodang). Larger native birds such as the Crimson Rosella (Platycercus elegans), the Laughing Kookaburra (Dacelo novaeguineae) and the Australian Magpie (Cracticus tibicen) may be seen in the surrounding tree canopy.
